Education in Action
Clinton Global Initiative
September 2025
This September the members of the board participated in the Clinton Global Initiative and the first Education Working Group focusing on expanding and investing in opportunities for underserved students in the United States. Surrounded by leaders and innovators in the field, we had fruitful discussions on how to navigate barriers in accessing higher education and how to develop an immediate action plan and a systemic and sustainable path forward.
It was a privilege to hear from such inspiring leaders including Hillary and Bill Clinton, Governor Gavin Newsom, and Chobani Founder and CEO Hamdi Ulukaya shared powerful insights on leadership, social impact, and global responsibility. Their words were both motivating and humbling, underscoring the importance of collective action in shaping a better future.
CGI emphasizes the importance of commitments to change. This conference was not just about attendance, but about initiating new commitments. As a result, the Foundation has made a commitment to expanding access to scholarships. Effective immediately, single mothers across Pennsylvania will be able to apply for scholarships, expanding beyond the Philadelphia area. We look forward to collaborating with institutions across the state and helping single mothers from the City of Bridges to the City of Brotherly Love.
Community College of Philadelphia: Family Reunion for Catto Scholars
August 2025
This week we had the pleasure of attending the Community College of Philadelphias Family Reunion for Catto Scholars-it was a joy to reconnect and witness the energy and drive of these incredible students.
Their motivation is inspiring, and it reminds us why this work matters so much- education should be accessible. We're excited to continue supporting single mothers at CCP in the upcoming academic year as they pursue their goals and create brighter futures. Best of luck in the start of the fall term, Lions!
Congratulations to our gift card raffle winner!!
Community College of Philadelphia
Black and Gold Gala
June 2025
The Foundation is proud to provide scholarships to students across the greater Philadelphia area. Over the past year, we have had the honour of supporting a number of strong and dedicated single mothers as they pursue their degrees at the Community College of Philadelphia (CCP).This past week, we were pleased to attend the Black and Gold Gala, a celebration of CCP alumni and their accomplishments. Hearing the stories of graduates who have gone on to pursue careers in public service, dedicate their time to supporting those in need, and effect systemic change underscores the critical importance of access to higher education.
It was a privilege to hear Mayor Parker’s remarks emphasizing the importance of equity, education, and unity. “One Philly, a united city!” serves as a powerful reminder that true unity includes supporting single mothers in completing their education and reaching their full potential. We extend our sincere congratulations to all students who completed their semester and to those who graduated. As the academic year comes to a close, the pursuit of education continues. The Foundation will remain open to applications from single mothers enrolling in summer courses and those registering for the fall semester.
Our deepest thanks to the Community College of Philadelphia for welcoming us to the gala and for their valued partnership over the past year.
Women’s Empowerment on a Global Scale
April 2025
This weekend two of our Foundation board members, Sheri Ranger, Founder, and Samantha Short, Chair of the scholarship committee, had the privilege of attending the 2025 Cartier Women’s Pavillon in Osaka, Japan. In sync with the mission of the foundation, Cartier believes in empowering women, striving for true equality and helping people find their purpose. This experience served as both a reminder for how far women have come in our pursuit of equality, and our collective responsibility to eliminate the disparities between men and women. Through scholarships, the Pierson Ranger Foundation strives to bridge the gaps in education and financial stability. We are honoured to have awarded seven women with scholarship in higher education thus far and we look forward to support many more to come.
*No funds or donations to the foundation were used to finance this event.
This past winter, the board had the privilege of attending the 2024 Bucks County Community College Celebrating Student Success Gala, with the goal of supporting the Student Emergency Fund. We were honored to partake and help support the college in providing emergency mico-grants to students in need. Student success and accessibility to education is a hallmark of both BCCC and the Pierson Ranger Educational Foundation.
Single mothers attending Bucks County Community college may be eligible for the Pierson Ranger Educational Foundation Scholarship, and are encouraged to apply! We look forward to continuing to work alongside the wonderful organizations within Bucks county community college and provide scholarships to hard working single mothers pursuing their degrees!

In October of 2024, the Foundation was thrilled to provide the first Pierson Ranger Educational Foundation scholarship to Sekea! Despite the struggles of being a single mother, Sekea was persistent in her education and determined to help others through a career in healthcare.
Sekea graduated from the Philadelphia Community College of Philadelphia in 2025 with her Associates of Arts in Health Care Studies. She will continue her studies at Arcadia University for her Bachelors degree.
Congratulations Sekea!
